About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist is responsible for accurately performing medical laboratory tests following established laboratory policies and procedures; adhering to performance and quality standards. The Lab Scientist is responsible for clinical instrument maintenance, for new test and instrumentation development. The Lab Scientist is responsible for training of other laboratory co-workers. The Lab Scientist actively participates in the overall functioning of the clinical laboratory, assuming leadership or member roles on committees and projects. The Lab Scientist is responsible for keeping the laboratory in continuous readiness for inspection. The Lab Scientist possesses an extensive knowledge of techniques, instruments, and the basic medical sciences. The Lab Scientist is responsible for the consequences of his/her own decisions and provides guidance to other laboratory co-workers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, medical technology, or other major that qualifies as an equivalency according to CLIA 42CFR493.1405(b)(5)(i)(B).
  • Must be a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist at the time of hire or promotion.
  • Certification by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the National Credentialing Agency, the American Medical Technologists, or the Board of Registry of the American Association of Bioanalysts.
  • Or have 1 year of clinical laboratory experience, performing non-waived patient testing and required to pass a nationally recognized certification exam (AMT or ASCP) within 5 years and 6 months from the hire date.
