About The Position

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you will discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer! We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer. The Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry business develops and manufactures leading-edge instruments, consumables, and software solutions for customers working in the analytical sciences (routine testing markets) and scientific research. We play a crucial role in various applied markets including Clinical, Environmental & Food Safety (EFS), and Industrial sectors, supporting laboratories performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of small molecules. Our solutions enable analytical method development, validation, and routine small molecule LCMS analysis across diverse applications such as pharmaceuticals, forensics, environmental testing, biochemistry, and industrial quality control. The role of a Lab Scientist, Applications is to provide scientific expertise and support to customers, sales teams, and internal partners within CMD (Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division) to resolve complex analytical challenges by utilizing chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques. This includes supporting analytical method development, optimization, and validation workflows for small molecule LCMS analysis in both quantitative and qualitative applications across clinical, EFS, and industrial laboratories.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on technical experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments, including small molecule LCMS analysis, analytical method development, quantitative and qualitative workflows, software, and scientific data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple analytical projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in dynamic laboratory environments.
  • Outstanding teamwork and collaboration skills to foster creativity and contribute to the team's success.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot LCMS systems, optimize analytical methods, and provide guidance on quantitative and qualitative analysis workflows.
  • Persuasive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts—including analytical method development strategies and applied market workflows—to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • This position may require up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Product Demonstrations: Conduct product demonstrations to customers on the accurate use, product features, functionality, application of instruments and software, and best practices for small molecule LCMS workflows. Demonstrations may include analytical method development strategies, quantitative assay setup, qualitative screening approaches, and data analysis techniques. Understand customer’s motivation, success criteria and pain points and be able to effectively communicate customer feedback to the product development team regarding customer needs, product performance, and potential improvements. Understand the critical steps in the demo process and how to address them, including: o Pre-Demo Qualification o Demo Qualification o Internal alignment o Demo agreement with customer o Demo report o Demo result evaluation with customer o Internal demo evaluation
  • Application Optimization: Collaborate with customers and internal teams to customize applications and methodologies. This includes analytical method development, troubleshooting LCMS systems, optimizing chromatographic separation and mass spectrometric parameters, and supporting both quantitative and qualitative data interpretation. May be responsible for collecting data from customer experiments or field trials in applied markets such as Clinical, EFS, and Industrial laboratories, analyzing the data using appropriate statistical methods, and providing actionable insights and recommendations. They should be able to interpret complex scientific data accurately and communicate the results effectively. Occasionally helps to resolve and/or escalates customer issues & complaints.
  • Technical Presentations: Deliver presentations to highlight the capabilities and benefits of small molecule LCMS solutions for analytical method development, quantitative bioanalysis, qualitative screening, and routine testing workflows across applied markets. Effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Drive Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with internal teams, including marketing and sales, to support strategic execution of the entire demo process. Contribute application knowledge in small molecule LCMS analysis and applied market workflows to strengthen commercial and product development initiatives.
  • Scientific Support: Stay informed about the latest scientific literature, analytical methodologies, regulatory requirements, and industry trends relevant to clinical diagnostics, environmental & food safety, and industrial testing.
