About The Position

The Lab/ QC Technician is responsible for supporting the plant quality program and operation of the laboratory. Responsible for daily laboratory activities, laboratory support, and entering information into the Quality Management System. This individual will work closely with the site operations team and the sales team to help solve problems and provide expected value to the customer.

Requirements

  • While infrequent, production requirements periodically require working hours outside of regularly scheduled shifts.
  • Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, if needed.
  • Must be willing to be hands-on and not afraid to perform other work assigned to help the team to be successful.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.

  • Ability to complete required paperwork and mathematical assignments in a scientific format.
  • Demonstrated ability to enter and retrieve data from MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise, and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in both an office environment and in a mineral processing environment.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree in chemistry, biology, or Engineering or demonstrated skills and ability and/or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.
  • A minimum of 1- 3 years of related experience through intern, co-op or actual work experience in mining, manufacturing or laboratory environment.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physical Science, Chemical Engineering, and/or related field.
  • 2-4 years of proven laboratory experience in mining, manufacturing or laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and executes daily testing schedule.
  • Performs daily calibration validation for lab instruments and balances.
  • Processes incoming samples, tests per procedures for each product.
  • Reviews results and alerts management to out of spec conditions.
  • Enters results into Quality Database accurately and timely.
  • Collects, validates, and sends out requested samples to customers.
  • Processes results and prepares COA's for shipments.
  • Tracks inventory of supplies required for sampling and testing.
  • Communicates to management when supplies need to be re-ordered.
  • Manages retained sample storage and turnover according to policy.
  • Support the implementation of the Quality System.
  • Identify when SOP's and Quality documentation requires revision and participate in revising the documents along with management.
  • Support the implementation of the SQF program.
  • Maintain and improve quality and sample database
  • Work and collaborate with team members and colleagues to implement improvements in the quality department.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment consistent with 5S.
  • Complete daily workplace exam and communicate all unsafe conditions immediately to management and team members.
  • Properly dispose of any lab waste in environmentally responsible way.
  • Responsible for minor repairs on laboratory equipment and preventative maintenance
  • Wear correct PPE for task at hand.
  • Attend safety meetings as required.
  • Ensure all chemicals used are labeled, all potential hazards understood, and SDS readily available.
  • Comply with all company, local, state, and federal safety policies.
  • Provide on-the-job training to others regarding lab procedures, as assigned.
  • Verify on-the-job training of others, as assigned.
  • Support corporate level development of quality and quality data systems.
  • Provide training in approved quality and quality data systems.
  • Educate team members about plant quality control, assurance, awareness, and auditing.
  • Ensure test methods and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated.
  • Ensure federal, state, and local agency compliance standards.
  • Maintain and support data in compliance with the quality system.
  • Compile non-conformance data, including customer complaints to provide specific and global recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
