About The Position

The Lab Phlebotomist position at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South involves performing various medical assisting duties in a laboratory setting, primarily focused on blood collection and specimen handling. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience and/or training as a phlebotomist or medical assistant is desired.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Draws blood (veni-puncture) and collects urine samples.
• Uses the LabDaq system to enter patient information, tests ordered, and proper ICD-9 codes.
• Inputs information for next-day appointments from charts brought in from appointment desk.
• Delivers patient samples to the hospital, including BNP specimens and stat blood-work.
• Delivers charts to the appropriate department in the clinic for additional studies following blood work.
• Handles specimens for reference labs, entering patient information and lists of tests sent out.
• Writes requisitions for VAP tests and is responsible for mailing out the VAP studies.
• Keeps work area neat and organized, reporting safety issues to the team leader immediately.
• Assists other employees when all duties are complete and communicates any problems regarding job duties to the team leader.
• Performs all duties without significant error and meets all deadlines for completion of assignments.
