About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lab Phlebotomist - Part Time, Nights - Clinical Labs-Night Lab - Part-Time - Monday - Friday with Al. In this role, the successful candidate under supervision performs routine phlebotomy and laboratory central receiving duties. Prepares specimens for send-outs to Reference Laboratories and results reports into the laboratory computer system.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Phlebotomy Certificate preferred or equivalent documentation.
  • 5 years experience in a related field.
  • General office skills (Typing, Filing, Phone).
  • General computer skills and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations and Standard precautions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Properly greets patient and identifies them.
  • Prepares patient in an appropriate position and assembles appropriate material.
  • Selects appropriate tubes for tests ordered and follows IC procedures.
  • Performs proper site sterilization techniques and labels/document tubes correctly.
  • Follows proper procedure for Blood Culture Collection and sharp's disposals.
  • Maintains a clean and professional working appearance and phlebotomy tray.
  • Performs EKGs correctly and explains procedures to patients.
  • Reports any unusual conditions of patients to supervisors.
  • Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance and adheres to dress code.
  • Communicates respectfully and collaborates with team members.
  • Handles specimen processing and prepares documents in the computer system.
  • Organizes work for timely completion and investigates unusual tests.
  • Properly faxes reports to Physician's offices and handles phone conversations politely.
