About The Position

The Phlebotomist performs day-to-day phlebotomy duties in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as directed by the Laboratory Director. This role requires a systematic approach to work, ensuring quality specimen integrity and patient care while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to provide own transportation while on duty.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-focused and able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of clinical or anatomical laboratory functions, medical terminology, or science background.
  • Associate's degree in an Allied Health field.
  • Experience preferred.
  • PBT (ASCP) registration.
  • Completion of a regionally accredited phlebotomy certificate program.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and systematically approaches all areas of work while courteously receiving patients.
  • Obtains proper specimens, verifies patient's identity, and labels specimens correctly.
  • Uses good judgment when procuring specimens from difficult patients or unusual circumstances.
  • Prioritizes the collection and delivery of stat, urgent, timed, and routine orders to the laboratory.
  • Maintains and obtains phlebotomy items for blood collection.
  • Monitors and uses the computer system for collection batches and specimen reports.
  • Exemplifies professionalism and a positive attitude as a public relations provider.
  • Communicates effectively with customers, physicians, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care relative to the age-specific needs of patients.
  • Adheres to attendance policy and is punctual.
