About The Position

The purpose of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) is to obtain specimens for laboratory testing, perform laboratory tests on various instruments and consisting of hematological, blood banking, chemical, microscopic, or microbiology examinations. Sets up laboratory instruments; performs and assesses quality control studies; maintains and repairs laboratory instruments. Shows ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Demonstrates good judgment in reviewing test results. Uses good technique consistently.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a NAACLS approved medical laboratory scientist educational program with clinical experience.
  • Must be certified or become certified as MLS/MT(ASCP) within 12 months of hire date.
  • College transcript required.
  • Customer focused and service oriented with effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstration of leadership and positive service-oriented interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of computers, telephone operations, and other office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes department and develops orientation protocol.
  • Uses customer’s name and smiles when communicating; timely in response to customers’ needs.
  • Obtains blood specimens using correct technique and labels legibly.
  • Performs routine daily set-up and maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment.
  • Completes assignments reflecting an average rating or better for quality of work.
  • Maintains quality control records and assesses quality control results.
  • Properly records results on report forms including date and initials.
  • Shows good organizational skills to ensure timely availability of patient results.
  • Interacts well with patients and physicians, maintaining a cheerful professional manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Is punctual and adheres to attendance policy.
