About The Position

The Lab Manager is a senior-level role responsible for the overall management, oversight, and strategic operation of the physician-owned laboratory. The Lab Manager handles daily lab operations, ensures regulatory and safety compliance, optimizes workflows, and partners with leadership to support organizational goals. This role balances hands-on operations with higher-level planning, development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory operations, coordination, or management.
  • Strong knowledge of lab safety, compliance, and operational best practices.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience managing or supervising staff.
  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory or accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Lab Tech to handle all laboratory operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency. This includes scheduling patients, insurance prior authorizations, billing coordination with the billing department, coordinating lab specimen processing, coordinating genetic counseling and routing lab results to patients and providers.
  • Develop, implement, and refine lab workflows, schedules, and procedures.
  • Monitor capacity, utilization, and resource allocation to meet service demands.
  • Identify operational gaps and implement solutions to improve productivity and service quality.
  • Ordering supplies and maintaining inventory
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee lab safety protocols, incident reporting, and corrective action plans.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and quality checks to maintain high standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports required for compliance and quality assurance.
  • Partner with Lab Director and executive leadership to support short- and long-term operational planning.
  • Analyze data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to guide decision-making.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization and cost control.
  • Contribute to policy development and updates related to lab operations.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the lab and leadership, clinical teams, and external partners as applicable.
  • Communicate expectations, updates, and changes clearly and consistently to lab staff.
  • Address concerns proactively and professionally to support team engagement and retention.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and escalation point for complex operational, staffing, or compliance issues.
  • Foster a professional, collaborative, and high-performing lab culture aligned with company values.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing performance management of lab staff.
