About The Position

As a Lab Manager for NPD Interconnects, you will be responsible for managing lab space utilized by engineering teams for assembly, testing, and development of network hardware solutions. You will oversee the safe setup, execution, and management of all equipment testing while supporting both engineering teams and lab technicians through efficient equipment and supply storage management, project progress tracking, and space utilization optimization. Your role will focus on developing and implementing lab best practices, managing inventory and financial resources, and ensuring smooth operations across multiple engineering teams. You will coordinate lab access and usage to prevent scheduling conflicts, manage sophisticated testing equipment, and maintain a safe and effective work environment. Working closely with AWS Infrastructure Services, you'll help support the development of one of the world's largest and most complex networks by ensuring the lab facilities meet the highest standards for safety, efficiency, and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related STEM field
  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • Experience with lab safety, security and quality practices
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Experience managing lab operations and equipment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related technical field
  • Direct experience managing a mechanical lab or shop space
  • Experience with network switches and racks, as well as optic transceivers and copper + fiber cable management
  • Experience in an R&D/Prototype environment
  • Experience with CAD software and mechanical design tools

Responsibilities

  • Lab Infrastructure: Maintain the physical and operational integrity of the lab, including inventory control, equipment lifecycle , and ensuring availability of supplies.
  • Facility Operations: Handle logistics such as ordering, receiving, shipping, and waste removal in alignment with engineering needs and testing cycles.
  • Server Infrastructure Support: Maintain and provision lab servers, including DHCP, PXE, HTTP, and other critical services, to ensure engineers have access to lab devices.
  • Device Setup and Network Configuration: Install and configure a wide range of networking and server equipment; set up and maintain network switches and ensure testbed connectivity.
  • Environmental Systems Management: Manage and operate environmental testing infrastructure, including multiple thermal chambers and ovens. Provide first-line support and maintenance.
  • External Lab Support: Serve as the technical liaison for external testing environments, ensuring continuity and rapid resolution of technical blockers.
  • Technical Troubleshooting & Adaptation: Respond to dynamic engineering needs with flexible problem-solving across ambiguous and undefined tasks, often involving scripting, service configuration, and custom setups.
  • Lab Optimization & Initiative Leadership: Lead continuous improvement efforts such as reorganizing storage, standardizing practices, or increasing the scalability and efficiency of lab workflows.
  • Develop and maintain efficient lab processes and operational mechanisms
  • Create and track project schedules for lab activities and equipment builds
  • Process and manage PRs/POs while tracking overall lab financial spend
  • Coordinate cross-functional team access and lab space utilization
  • Build and document lab best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Lead and supervise lab technicians in completing jobs/tickets from engineering
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering teams to meet their lab requirements
  • Develop, implement, and drive continuous improvement initiatives for lab operations
  • Ensure proper training and compliance with safety/quality standards
  • Manage vendor relationships and external partnerships as needed
