About The Position

Under the supervision of the manager of the SOA Aviation Maintenance: Lab Instructors Supervisory Organization, the Lab Instructor will assist AMTP Instructors and Faculty with instruction of students during lab and shop training within Liberty University’s FAA approved 14 CFR Part 147 curriculum. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the upkeep and maintenance of AMTP training aids and devices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instruct students in all aspects of 14 CFR Part 147 required Airframe and Power Plant Certification course lesson-associated lab projects Assist students, as required, in 14 CFR Part 147 required Airframe and Powerplant Certification course lesson-associated lab projects Tutor students individually or in small groups, as necessary, to reinforce or to follow-up course objective-related theory provided in classroom lecture and discussion by Staff Instructors and Faculty Provide relevant information and feedback to the instructor of record regarding student progress in projects, including grading Prepare 14 CFR Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant Certification course lesson-associated training aids and equipment for demonstration to, or for use by students Assist Staff Instructors and Faculty in researching and ordering materials for training aids, equipment, and lesson-associated lab projects Control inventory of instructional supplies, materials and tools, and distribution of same to students by checking items in and out, maintaining records of usage, and ordering replacement items as necessary Oversee the operation and maintenance of the 14 CFR Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant Certification course laboratory environment including, but not limited to setting up, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining training aids and equipment Ensure instructional areas, shop, parts room, and technical areas are maintained in a safe, secure, clean and orderly condition Perform periodic inspection and maintenance of shop equipment, and make repairs on equipment as necessary Train new Instruction Staff and Faculty in the use and operation of training aids and equipment Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

  • FAA mechanic certification with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Demonstrate understanding of 14 CFR Part 147 as it relates to required practical projects of an FAA approved AMTS.
  • Demonstrate competency in the field of aircraft technology, maintenance, and operations.
  • Be able to understand and follow procedures set forth in typical aircraft maintenance documentation and manuals.
  • Be able to make simple arithmetic calculations related to aircraft maintenance.
  • Based on visual inspections and performance checks of aircraft equipment, be able to make accurate judgments and decisions related to safety.
  • Be able to analyze symptoms of improper operation of aircraft systems and follow troubleshooting procedures to determine cause of improper operation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills especially with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in to effectively communicate orally.
  • Required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds.
  • Required to crawl under, over, and around engines and cockpits.
  • Must be able to use all types of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment at all times.

  • Supervise student workers, under the directions of the FAA Compliance and Maintenance Operations Coordinator, as it relates to the upkeep, cleaning, and repair of training devices, equipment, and facilities.
