About The Position

Lab Coordinator (Full-Time) Fourth Street Clinic | Salt Lake City, UT Homelessness hurts. Health care helps. For nearly 35 years, Fourth Street Clinic has provided high-quality, integrated health care to individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Salt Lake City. Our team is dedicated to improving health outcomes, advancing health equity, and treating every patient with dignity and respect. Position Overview The Lab Coordinator is a vital member of the clinical operations team, responsible for maintaining the efficiency, safety, and quality of all laboratory activities. Reporting to the Medical Assistant Manager, the Lab Coordinator ensures timely specimen collection, proper handling, accurate documentation, and adherence to regulatory standards. This role also supports clinic staff, trains and oversees lab volunteers, and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Certification or training in phlebotomy or laboratory procedures
  • 1–3 years of clinical or laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and quality standards
  • Ability to accurately collect, label, and process specimens
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a background check, including fingerprints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a community health clinic or nonprofit healthcare setting
  • Experience supervising or training volunteers or support staff
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) or laboratory information systems

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all daily laboratory activities, including blood and specimen collection
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and infection control standards
  • Accurately label, process, and document specimens in accordance with protocols
  • Train, supervise, and support lab volunteers and support staff
  • Assist clinical staff with laboratory procedures and patient care as needed
  • Support clinic workflows to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care
  • Maintain accurate records in laboratory information systems or electronic health records (EHR)
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and safety initiatives
