About The Position

The Lab Coordinator – Healthcare Simulation provides professional coordination of the clinical simulation laboratory for nursing and allied health programs’ implementation of student learning experiences. The Lab Coordinator manages simulation laboratory operations including equipment function, supply availability, and faculty and student support during laboratory learning experiences. The Lab Coordinator collaborates with the Dean of Nursing and faculty of nursing and allied health programs to evaluate laboratory operations effectiveness and planning for future needs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing or healthcare related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One or more years of practice in a healthcare-related field required.
  • Current CPR Certification as a Healthcare Provider required.
  • One or more years of experience in a teaching or simulation laboratory in an academic or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the use of simulation experiences in a nursing lab environment preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Practice as an educator in a healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and update lab policies and procedures in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate procurement and maintenance of supply inventory to support laboratory and simulation learning activities.
  • Ensure safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and readiness for use.
  • Facilitate scheduling of simulation use by academic programs and community healthcare partners.
  • Prepare laboratory for specific use-cases including set up of supplies, patient simulators, and related equipment for designated laboratory or simulation sessions as directed by faculty.
  • Operate patient simulators and related equipment during faculty facilitated simulation sessions.
  • Facilitate implementation of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation Operations.
  • Create and maintain a collaborative, respectful, and professional working and learning environment.
  • Facilitate faculty training for laboratory equipment use.
  • Facilitate student training for supervised use of laboratory equipment during learning sessions.
  • Orient faculty and students to lab policies and procedures and supply and equipment locations and use.
  • Collaborate in evaluation of equipment functionality, supply availability, and overall laboratory function.
  • Promote sustainability and cost-effectiveness in planning for laboratory operational and equipment needs.
  • Maintain records and reports on laboratory expenses and prepare budget recommendations.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate accountability, flexibility, and creativity.
  • Promote professional relationships and contribute to a culture of civility.
  • Seek assistance in unfamiliar situations.
  • Continue development of capacity to use and educate faculty and students on use of advanced simulation technology.
  • Participate in annual healthcare simulation professional development to ensure laboratory adherence to best practices in simulation operations.
