About The Position

The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for monitoring daily operations in an assigned laboratory section of responsibility. This role involves evaluating workflow in the laboratory, coordinating with sections to ensure service delivery is met, and regularly communicating with the manager on day-to-day operations. The Laboratory Coordinator understands the role and function of all laboratory areas and is able to fulfill tech in charge as required. They are expected to assume bench responsibilities as needed and regularly perform testing at least 60% of the time. The coordinator also performs and reports routine, special, and point of care laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes. They verify results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability, perform, evaluate, and document all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, and monitor pre-analytical, analytical, or post-analytical testing processes to ensure acceptable levels of performance are maintained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Maintains current Florida license(s) if required for area of responsibility.
  • Certified by a professional laboratory certification agency, i.e. ASCP or eligible, if required for area of responsibility.
  • Three (3) years hospital laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
  • Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Monitors pre-analytical, analytical or post-analytical testing processes to ensure acceptable levels of performance are maintained.
  • Evaluates team competency, monitors results, worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing and maintenance logs.
  • Participates in evaluation of new pre-analytical devices, tests methodologies or instrumentation under the direction of the manager and medical director.
  • Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed the customer’s needs.
  • Orients and trains team members.
  • Completes performance competency evaluations, coaching plans.
  • Supervises time entry for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies for section.
  • Maintains an active role in the laboratories quality improvement program.
  • Enforces departmental compliance of all safety and infection control practices.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient record and hospital and departmental issues at all levels.
  • Provides significant input for and leads departmental meetings as directed by the manager.
  • Provides laboratory education to departments outside of the laboratory as needed.
