About The Position

The position involves preparing and distributing all needed supplies to participants for experiential learning sessions and collecting unused supplies at the end of the session. The role requires collaboration with other instructors to plan laboratory experiences for students that emphasize learning objectives from didactic materials used in the classroom setting. The individual will assess the needs of nursing faculty related to the lab and assist students during open lab sessions to optimize practice sessions as needed. Evaluating lab and clinical performance of students to assess achievement of student learning outcomes is also a key responsibility. The position requires maintaining proficiency in all lab procedures and utilizing evidence-based practice to guide performance in laboratory and clinical settings. Additionally, the individual will round to all CU School of Nursing labs to check on equipment, supplies, and any CI/faculty needs during practice sessions, restock and organize supplies according to needs and skills being presented, and ensure all cabinets/supplies closets/medication carts are locked up after all lab usage. The role also includes organizing, maintaining, and tracking lab inventory inclusive of supplies, manikins, equipment, and disposable items, promoting safety in the lab setting for students, patients, and other faculty, and informing the lead course faculty of any deficiencies or performance issues of students.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with other instructors to plan laboratory experiences for students that emphasize learning objectives from didactic materials used in the classroom setting.
  • Assesses needs of nursing faculty related to lab.
  • Assists students during open lab sessions to optimize practice sessions as needed.
  • Evaluates lab and clinical performance of students to assess achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Maintains proficiency in all lab procedures and utilizes evidence-based practice to guide performance in laboratory and clinical setting.
  • Rounds to all CU School of Nursing labs to check on equipment, supplies, and any CI/faculty needs during practice sessions.
  • Restocks and organizes supplies according to needs and skills being presented.
  • Cleans manikins and all equipment, lab surfaces correcting any broken items, damage, or low inventory.
  • Ensures all cabinets/supplies closets/medication carts are locked up after all lab usage.
  • Functions independently to prepare various nursing skills and or scenarios to enable student practice sessions with the collaboration of faculty.
  • Organizes, maintains, and tracks lab inventory inclusive of supplies, manikins, equipment and disposable items.
  • Cleans, sorts, removes and reduces unused supplies.
  • Orders and distributes nursing skills pack items.
  • Promotes safety in the lab setting for students, patients and other faculty.
  • Informs the lead course faculty of any deficiencies or performance issues of students.
  • Maintains an accommodating and supportive demeanor with students.
  • Works collaboratively with the Clinical Coordinator/Program Coordinator/Lead Course Faculty/Simulation Coordinator to ensure availability of supplies and equipment for the clinical nursing laboratory.
  • Accountable to maintain the guidelines set forth in 201 KAR 20:310 Section 2(5) and KRS 314:111 (6) (a).
  • Accepts clinical assignment(s) as needed.
  • Performs other roles consistent with full-time nursing faculty and special projects as assigned.
