The Lab CE Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of clinical laboratory instrumentation and related equipment. This role supports laboratory operations by ensuring specialized devices operate reliably and meet manufacturer specifications as well as regulatory requirements. The technician maintains documentation necessary for compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, coordinates with laboratory staff to minimize equipment downtime, and assists with equipment validation, upgrades, and integration with laboratory information systems. This position requires specialized knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, safety protocols, and quality standards to ensure accurate and uninterrupted testing operations. Additionally, the technician participates in equipment planning, research, technical support, and departmental projects. A caregiver in this position works days + on-call | 8:00am—4:30.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Biomedical or Electronic Engineering and 2 years of Cleveland Clinic Clinical Engineering Tech I experience or 4 years outside experience maintaining and troubleshooting medical equipment or equipment in a mechanical or electrical technician field OR High School diploma/GED and 4 years of Cleveland Clinic Clinical Engineering Tech I experience or 6 years outside experience maintaining and troubleshooting medical equipment or equipment in a mechanical or electrical technician field (can substitute for work experience) OR Bachelor's degree in biomedical or electrical Engineering or IT (Information Technology) technical field (can substitute for the required experience)
  • Equivalent specialized or military training may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and as needed clinical engineering services (repair, maintenance, relocation, installation, etc.) for equipment as assigned.
  • Maintain documentation of equipment, inventory, service and repairs.
  • Collaborate with information technology staff to integrate medical equipment systems with information systems applications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot instrument failures that affect laboratory testing workflows.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment meets CLIA, CAP and manufacturer compliance requirements.
  • Maintain equipment validation, calibration, and service documentation required for laboratory accreditation.
  • Supporting inspection readiness for regulatory or accrediting bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
