Lonza's High Throughput and Process Modeling R&D team is looking for an early-career scientist/engineer with industry experience in bioprocessing. Join us if you're eager to contribute to transformative innovations in bioprocess development.

  • Assisting with the operation of laboratory-scale bioreactors and distributed control systems to support R&D activities.
  • Supporting the development and optimization of bioreactor workflows for experimental and process needs.
  • Assisting in maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of bioreactor systems.
  • Help design and optimize high-throughput experimental workflows for cell culture or protein-based systems.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of methodologies to characterize cell and cell culture materials.
  • Contributing to the analysis and interpretation of experimental data to support high-throughput experimentation.
  • Consulting scientific literature and contributing to experimental design and execution.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary R&D teams to deliver results within an agile project management framework.
  • Clearly and frequently communicating project progress and experimental results to collaborators.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior colleagues as needed to foster team development.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of relevant industry experience in R&D or bioprocessing.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory-scale bioreactors or high-throughput mammalian cell and protein workflows is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with suspension mammalian cell culturing, sterile technique, & kit-based biological assays.
  • Experience with robotic liquid handlers, Python programming, or cell characterization techniques is also a plus.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, including mass and energy balances, heat and mass transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Interest in fixing and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in analyzing quantitative data and applying statistical tools to experimental design.
  • An understanding of molecular biology concepts and their relevance to bioprocessing.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical results effectively through verbal and written channels.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience with robotic liquid handlers.
  • Python programming skills.
  • Cell characterization techniques.
