About The Position

This position supports the largest laboratory in the BJC system. The Core Lab processes high volumes of specimens from one of the most complex patient populations in the region. Phlebotomy experience highly recommended Schedule Part-Time | 20 hours per week M-F, no weekends, no holidays Evening shift: 2pm-6pm (5, 4-hour shifts/week) Shift Differential Eligible Benefits Eligible Location: South County Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Center for Advanced Medicine - South County is a new outpatient facility, jointly owned by Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, that is under construction in South St. Louis County. The building, scheduled to open in late spring 2016, is located near the Siteman Cancer Center at I-55 and Butler Hill Rd. This new, two-story, approximately 84,500 square foot outpatient facility will include outpatient surgery, imaging, lab, therapy, and Washington University physician subspecialty offices including the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and OB/GYN. ; ; The surgery suite includes two operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms. Imaging services will include plain film, CT, MRI, and screening mammography. Role Purpose Performs a variety of pre analytic, analytic and post analytic laboratory duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience preferred
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
2-5 years

Responsibilities

Receive, label, and process incoming specimens
Route specimens to appropriate testing departments (Chemistry/Hematology)
Identify and resolve specimen discrepancies
Maintain accurate electronic documentation
Support turnaround time goals in a high-volume environment
Performs waived and moderate complex testing with appropriate training and competency, sweat chloride collections, EKG's, etc.
Under supervision, reports test results as appropriate.
Sorts and processes routine and specific high level specimens received by the lab--including multistep technical processing (i.e. Histology, Microbiology, Cytology, etc.). Ensures correct processing and packaging for esoteric send out tests.
Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuation in workload, prioritizing work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
Inventory management, equipment cleaning, maintenance, loading, etc.
