About the position

The Lab Associate II position in San Juan Capistrano, CA, is a non-licensed role responsible for providing general support for the laboratory. The work schedule is from Tuesday to Saturday, 3:00 am to 11:30 am, within the Auto Chemistry department. This position involves various tasks including preparing and organizing samples for testing, handling and processing specimens, and assisting licensed personnel in pre-analytic and post-analytic testing activities. The role requires adherence to all applicable policies and procedures, and successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and organizes samples for testing, including sample racking, aliquoting, and tube preparation.
  • Responsible for labeling, handling, processing, preparation, transportation, and storage of specimens.
  • Identifies sample problems and assists in resolving them appropriately.
  • Prepares testing equipment and assists with preventive maintenance.
  • Assists licensed personnel or delegated supervisor in pre-analytic and post-analytic testing activities.
  • Prepares pre-analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed volume measuring devices.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of reagents or media.
  • Maintains inventory of consumable items including reagents and supplies.
  • Sorts and accession incoming specimens into appropriate LIS.
  • Performs data entry or transcribes data for licensed personnel's review.
  • Tallies workload data and prepares reports as requested.
  • Assists in the performance of quality control procedures.
  • Prepares protocols/logs or other appropriate documents.
  • Trains other Lab Associates and supports Training Programs.
  • Demonstrates leadership through accountability and collaboration.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client information.
  • Ensures laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 1 year of histopathology, cytology, or other laboratory experience.
  • 1 year of experience handling Protected Health Information (PHI) and other patient information using a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma/Equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 - 3 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong typing skills.
  • Other automation skills.
