About The Position

The Laboratory Associate I position at Ambry Genetics involves following standard operating procedures and quality regulations in a laboratory setting. The role is focused on supporting laboratory functions that do not directly involve patient samples, while assisting with various clerical and operational tasks as assigned by laboratory management. This is an entry-level position suitable for individuals with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, looking to start their career in a molecular genetics laboratory.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical laboratory experience, preferably molecular
  • Technical knowledge of laboratory testing and terminology is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all procedures and protocols pertaining to patient sample processing, pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing.
  • Adhere to all Quality regulations (CAP, CLIA & New York State) and ensure all training and competency forms are complete.
  • Perform biological specimen patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens.
  • Transcribe results that have been previously recorded automatically by a testing instrument.
  • Maintain laboratory safety by ensuring work area is safe and clean prior to work and after work.
  • Assist in pulling and filing primers, reagents and samples for trainees and licensed techs without manipulating the samples or compromising their integrity.
  • Assist with any clerical duties that may be assigned by Lab Management.
