About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant supports the Chemical Quality Engineer with daily laboratory tasks in the quality lab of a lead-acid battery manufacturing facility. This role focuses on routine, entry-level laboratory support including sample handling, basic measurements, data entry, solution prep, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. This is an excellent opportunity for students, recent graduates, or individuals seeking hands-on chemistry laboratory experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety and chemical handling.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Ability to follow structured procedures and instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Excel, data entry, digital logs).
  • Frequent standing, walking, and hands-on lab work.
  • Exposure to lead, sulfuric acid, heat, and manufacturing noise (PPE provided).
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Strict adherence to hygiene and OSHA lead-safety requirements.
  • Participation in blood lead testing and annual medical surveillance is required (OSHA 1910.1025).
  • Company provides all PPE, uniforms, and training prior to independent work.

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in Chemistry or related science preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily sample collection, labeling, and tracking.
  • Prepare materials, simple solutions, and reagents under supervision.
  • Perform basic tests such as pH, specific gravity, visual inspections, and basic measurements.
  • Set up and organize samples for the Chemical Quality Engineer.
  • Record test data accurately into logs, spreadsheets, and quality forms.
  • Maintain sample retention records and organized filing systems.
  • Support the Chemical Quality Engineer with simple report preparation.
  • Clean and restock glassware, tools, and general lab supplies.
  • Maintain a tidy workspace following 5S and good laboratory practices.
  • Restock PPE, reagents, and consumables as needed.
  • Assist with daily equipment readiness checks (balance verification, meter checks, etc.).
  • Follow all required safety procedures for lead, sulfuric acid, and chemical handling.
  • Wear proper PPE at all times: gloves, goggles, apron, etc.
  • Maintain hygiene and follow lead-safety protocols to prevent contamination.
  • Report any unusual observations or equipment issues immediately.
