About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by assisting with the collection, handling, and preparation of specimens for testing. This position is essential for ensuring quality patient care and efficient laboratory processes, including specimen verification, labeling, and transportation, as well as maintaining necessary supplies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or highest level of degree required.
• BLS certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Ability to distinguish colors is necessary.
• Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field preferred for Histology and Cytology positions.
• ASCP/Phlebotomy certification or registry eligible preferred.
• Prior experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the collection, handling, and preparation of specimens for laboratory testing.
• Verify and label specimens accurately.
• Handle and transport specimens according to established procedures.
• Prepare slides for laboratory analysis.
• Maintain necessary laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Collect blood samples in accordance with established protocols.
• Provide quality customer service and support organizational goals.
• Participate in performance improvement efforts and demonstrate teamwork.
