About The Position

UNDER GENERAL GUIDANCE OF THE LABORATORY MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND/OR THE LABORATORY MANAGER, THIS POSITION WILL SUPPORT THE CLINICAL LABORATORY IN, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: PERFORM VENIPUNCTURE AND SKIN PUNCTURE ON NEONATE, PEDIATRIC, ADOLESCENT, ADULT, AND GERIATRIC PATIENTS, WITHDRAWING BLOOD FOR VARIOUS TEST PROCEDURES, LABELING SPECIMENS ACCURATELY IN THE PRESENCE OF THE PATIENT. PERFORM SPECIMEN PROCESSING, CENTRIFUGE SAMPLES, DISTRIBUTE SPECIMENS TO THE APPROPRIATE TESTING AREA IN THE LABORATORY, AND PREPARATION OF PATIENT SAMPLES TO BE SENT OUT TO THE REFERENCE LABORATORY, ASSURING ACCURATE SPECIMEN COLLECTION, HANDLING, AND SHIPPING REQUIREMENTS ARE MET. ASSIST WITH MONITORING LABORATORY TURNAROUND TIMES USING HOSPITAL COMPUTER SYSTEM AND REFERENCE LABORATORY COMPUTER SYSTEM TO ENSURE THAT ALL TESTS ARE COMPLETED IN A TIMELY FASHION. PERFORM CLIA WAIVED TESTING IN THE LABORATORY. ASSIST LABORATORY SCIENTISTS WITH LOADING AUTOMATED ANALYZERS, SPECIMEN MANAGEMENT, AND MONITORING RESULT COMPLETION.

Requirements

  • Active California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) 1 or 2 Certification
  • BLS Certification
  • General computer and data entry experience

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience with all age groups
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience
