About The Position

The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist at St. Anne Hospital Mercy Health plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of care for patients. This position involves performing phlebotomy and specimen collection, utilizing the Lab Information System (LIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS) to manage various functions related to patient care. The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for conducting patient registration, order entry, result look-up, and report generation, which are essential for accurate diagnostic testing and patient management. In addition to specimen collection, the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist processes specimens for diagnostic and referral testing, ensuring that all samples are sorted according to insurance requirements and accurately registered. The role requires a strong focus on customer service, as the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist interacts with patients and provides them with essential information regarding their procedures. Maintaining inventory levels and stocking supplies is also a key responsibility, ensuring that the lab operates smoothly and efficiently. When assigned to the Microbiology department, the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist will perform culture setups of microbiology samples and prepare gram stains, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in their role. The position may also require performing additional phlebotomist duties as needed.
