About The Position

The Lab Assistant Phlebotomist position at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is a part-time, day-shift role that involves performing various duties in the Pathology laboratory. The position requires adherence to established policies and procedures while processing patients, specimens, and orders. The role is fast-paced and requires a high level of accuracy and customer service. Responsibilities include performing venipuncture, processing specimens, and assisting pathologists, among other tasks.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Phlebotomy certification highly preferred or a minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience.
• Good oral, written, and electronic data communication skills.
• Ability to manage time and organize daily schedules to meet productivity standards.
• Ability to work with and interpret numbers and figures.

Nice To Haves

• Medical Assisting or Phlebotomy Certificates preferred.
• CPR certification is not required but is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in Phlebotomy, Processing, Transporting, Posting and/or Billing, Ancillary testing, Anatomical Pathology, Blood Bank, Special Testing and Microbiology.
• Accurately perform venipuncture or capillary sticks from patients.
• Ensure patient identification information matches test request information.
• Process patients, specimens, orders, reports, and requests in a timely manner.
• Collect and transport specimens courteously and accurately.
• Respond to STAT orders immediately and meet turnaround times for specimens.
• Provide good customer service with prompt and courteous responses to inquiries.
• Utilize problem-solving skills in various situations requiring corrective actions.
• Maintain professional growth and development through continuous education.
• Accept and complete additional duties to maintain quality work and service.
