The position involves demonstrating knowledge in handling patients across various age groups, including newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, specifically in relation to drawing blood specimens for laboratory testing. The role requires an understanding of age-specific care, which includes identifying the need for additional safety measures, understanding physiological normal values and readings, and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills, and activities that may place patients at risk. Effective communication in a clear, concise, and understandable manner is essential. The responsibilities include performing phlebotomy for blood sample collection, planning and organizing workload, processing specimens for clinical laboratory tests, applying criteria for specimen rejection, documenting collection information, performing routine clerical tasks using the laboratory computer, preparing and replenishing materials, supplies, and reagents, and incorporating the HPMC mission of "quality care with compassion and respect" into daily job functions. The position also involves assisting in new employee orientation upon request and communicating any problems or concerns to the Supervisor. Additionally, responding to priority specifications for pick-ups (stat, timed, etc.) is required.
