About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of laboratory duties within the assigned department, in order to provide appropriate service levels to both internal and external customers. The Laboratory Assistant I will be proficient in one of the following, the Laboratory Assistant II will be proficient in two of the following, and a Laboratory Assistant III will be proficient in all of the following: Laboratory Customer Service, Phlebotomy, Specimen Processing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Experience in a Healthcare/Customer Service Environment or similar setting preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Proficient in keyboarding.
  • Ability to use a computer and required applications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret business documents, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both directly and via phone/email sensitive information.
  • Ability to recognize and solve basic problems regarding area of responsibility.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations and able to withstand the sight of blood.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in simple written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read and comprehend departmental SOPS and safety manuals.
  • Ability to utilize basic ordering and inquiry functions within the Laboratory Information System.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory duties to provide service levels to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in laboratory customer service, phlebotomy, and specimen processing based on the level of the position.
