Lab Assistant II
About The Position
Up to $10,000 SOB for qualified candidates, paid over 24 months Full Time, Days Position Summary The Lab Assistant II performs routine technical and clerical functions. Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; will perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Performs routine technical and clerical functions to include specimen registration and billing. Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens. Performs phlebotomy duties as assigned. Will perform waived testing, and assist in microbiology processing and plating specimens, as requested.
Requirements
- Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Required: 1 year of laboratory experience and/or completion of a formal phlebotomy training program.
- License: N/A
- Certifications: Required: Phlebotomy certification where State law requires.
Nice To Haves
- Preferred: Completion of a phlebotomy program
- Preferred: In addition to above, basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
- Preferred: Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar.
Responsibilities
- Specimens are collected using the proper technique and following all specimen handling guidelines, assuring specimen integrity.
- Demonstrates competency in all relevant phases of specimen acquisition and processing.
- Provides clear and specific patient instruction to ensure optimal specimen integrity.
- Complies with department policies, procedures, standards.
- Displays the ability to communicate to other team members any necessary information concerning patient or lab related issues.
- Follows Infection Control procedures at all times.
