Lab Assistant II Southwest Tower
About The Position
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for collecting receiving and processing blood specimens; receiving and processing specimens for bacterial culture. Duties include: receiving and processing blood samples; centrifugation and loading barcoded specimens onto automated analyzers that are interfaced to the LIS; preparing aliquots and handling of reference lab specimens; performing waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision. Additional duties include clerical and telephone communication in support of the Laboratories functions.
Requirements
- CA CPT-2 LICENSE and Heartsaver required
- Education level necessary to obtain required licensure and certifications.
- CPI class will be completed within 90 days of hire and every other year thereafter.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills
- Must have the ability to read write and speak English.
- Ability to perform all phlebotomy functions including venous capillary and arterial punctures on adult pediatric and neonates populations.
- Ability to adapt to work load demands and remain calm and function efficiently during difficult or emergency situations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
Nice To Haves
- 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in an acute hospital preferred.
- Basic laboratory bench practice skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- General typing/computer skills.
