About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Lab Assistant supports instructional and laboratory activities by assisting students and faculty, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring lab safety, and providing clerical support for supplies and records. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be qualified for the position at the time of application.
  • Clearance of students for clinicals involves handling sensitive health information and strict adherence to confidentiality and applicable privacy regulations is required.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience providing effective customer service, and assisting individuals in a lab or educational setting.
  • Proficient computer skills to include internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Experience maintaining inventory records, compiling data, and generating reports.
  • Experience maintaining, cleaning, troubleshooting, and performing routine repair and service on lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course and laboratory materials for student use, including setting up equipment and supplies in support of faculty instruction.
  • Assist instructors in preparing instructional materials, maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment, and performing routine repairs.
  • Help supervise lab activities to ensure a safe learning environment, following lab safety programs and assisting with the proper disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Provide clerical support, including ordering, cataloging, and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment, maintaining records, conducting annual inventories, assisting with facility scheduling, and preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Perform office work in the Nursing Clinical Clearance Office, as required to meet division needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
