Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Graduate of phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: Phlebotomy certification preferred, ASCP certification/eligible preferred.
  • Software/Hardware: Meditech 6.0, Epic, and SunQuest.
  • Dexterity sufficient to manipulate instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written procedures.
  • Ability to communicate adequately with all laboratory clients.
  • Basic clerical/data entry skills preferred.
  • Excellent client relations skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Training & Competency Oversight: A Lead LTA ensures all staff are properly trained and consistently follow protocols.
  • Standardization of Procedures: Having a dedicated lead helps standardize processes across shifts, reducing variation and minimizing errors.
  • On-the-Spot Training & Support: This role enables continuous training, coaching, and support for both new and current staff.
  • Workflow Coordination: A Lead Phlebotomist can help balance assignments, adjust workflows based on volume and acuity.
  • Critical Support During System Transitions: With the department transitioning from Meditech to Epic and Sunquest, having a Lead Phlebotomist will be crucial.
  • Support for Staff and Leadership: The lead serves as a go-to contact during shifts, helping to resolve issues and support staff.
