The Lab Assistant II - Histology performs routine and limited non-routine functions to assist in the preparation of histopathology samples. This role involves preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, receiving and preparing tissue specimens, performing routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment, cover slipping of stained slides (manually and automated), and performing routine H&E staining (manually or automated). The assistant also prepares reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining under direct supervision. Additional responsibilities include processing paperwork for accessioning and reporting, handling clerical duties, monitoring pending lists, generating department statistics, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean, sterilized, and organized work area. The position requires compliance with all health, quality, and safety policies, procedures, and practices, including the use of personal protective equipment. With appropriate education and training, the Lab Assistant II may also assist technical staff with limited technical functions.
