About The Position

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Perform a variety of technical and specialized duties in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of the art studios. Operate and repair equipment and maintain and monitor the ceramics, printmaking, drawing, and painting studios, including inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment. Oversee health and safety of the art studios. Prepare studios for instruction, and provide specialized technical support to the full-time and part-time art faculty, and students.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Art or a related area required.
  • One to two (1-2) years of related experience in an art studio environment with demonstrated ability in at least two (2) of the following areas required: ceramics, sculpture (including woodshop and welding studios), jewelry/small metals, digital fabrication studios, printmaking and 2D studios.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art or a related area preferred.
  • One (1) year of direct experience in all areas above preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Confer with art faculty and administrators regarding laboratory requirements.
  • Maintain, repair, and monitor the use of equipment and materials in the ceramics, printmaking, drawing, and painting studios.
  • Maintain and update safety procedures in art studios.
  • Maintain secure, healthy, and safe environment in the art studios.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the art studios.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of art studios.
  • Responsible for inventory and ordering of materials for art studios, including local pick-up, as needed.
  • Organize and distribute tools and materials in art studios.
  • Work with the Facilities, Health and Safety, and Engineering departments to solve problems in the art studios.
  • Coordinate and monitor open studio times.
  • Train and supervise student workers.
  • Attend regular meetings (virtual or in-person) with art chairs, lab assistants, and staff.
  • Mix and maintain glazes in the ceramics studio.
  • Repair and maintain kilns in the ceramics studio.
  • Supervise and assist students with equipment during studio classes.
  • Coordinate equipment replacement and disposal as needed.
  • Other specialized lab duties depending on expertise.
