About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of laboratory duties within the assigned department, in order to provide appropriate service levels to both internal and external customers. The Laboratory Assistant I will be proficient in one of the following: Laboratory Customer Service, Phlebotomy, or Specimen Processing.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Proficient in keyboarding
• Ability to use a computer and required applications
• Ability to read, analyze, interpret business documents, policies and procedures
• Ability to effectively communicate both directly and via phone/email sensitive information and respond to questions from patients, customers, provider, coworkers, and vendors
• Ability to recognize and solve basic problems regarding area of responsibility and to refer involved issues to the department supervisor
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
• Ability to work under stressful situations
• Ability to prioritize tasks
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in simple written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to read and comprehend departmental SOPS and safety manuals
• Ability to utilize basic ordering and inquiry functions within the Laboratory Information System

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy experience
• Experience in a Healthcare/Customer Service Environment or similar setting
• Medical Terminology

• Perform a variety of laboratory duties within the assigned department
