About The Position

To participate in Berklee Student Employment, students must be currently enrolled at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee, at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. An exception applies for summer employment, where students must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. Other requirements include having a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN), maintaining valid Visa status (if applicable), a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (first-semester students are exempt), and being in good disciplinary standing. Federal Work Study students are eligible to apply, and all applicants must be located in the U.S. Lab Assistant I student employees are in an on-the-job training role, preparing to become Lab Assistants II. They receive 3 to 6 hours of general training during their first week and additional guidance and practice for the initial two months, depending on individual progress and weekly hours. Training is specific to assigned rooms, with staff providing assistance and instruction. The Student Employment program offers opportunities for students to engage with the Berklee community, earn income, and cover living expenses. It provides part-time on-campus positions, typically ranging from 10 to 15 hours per week, along with daily project-based temporary employment, fostering professional and educational growth.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program
  • Must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester if working in summer (this exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters)
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (students in their first semester can work without an official GPA)
  • Federal Work Study student may apply
  • In good disciplinary standing
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Completion of their major's first-level tech course or equivalent knowledge
  • Knowledge of two or more DAW applications: Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, or Cubase
  • Willingness to learn new music hardware and software while at work
  • An understanding of basic signal flow, MIDI, and audio recording
  • Good interpersonal skills with a diverse community
  • Reliability, flexibility, and accuracy
  • The ability to take direction
  • English fluency: Ability to follow verbal instructions and multi-step written instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly about technical issues to students from all experience levels and from all over the world
  • Availability to work a few shifts per week

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a course or equivalent knowledge in the DJ, Soldering, or Modular Synthesis labs
  • A few semesters left to complete before graduation

Responsibilities

  • Remembering the locations of rooms in different buildings by room number and function (30+ labs, classrooms, and storage areas in 7 different buildings)
  • Knowledge of and comfort with lab policies and rules, and enforcing them with “customer students”
  • Ability to follow student employee policies and internal procedures for communicating with staff via email and chat application (Slack)
  • Correctly answering phones, requesting time off, and submitting time sheets
  • Performing basic lab duties, under supervision
