About The Position

The Lab Assistant I at Jackson Hospital and Clinic is responsible for the efficient handling of laboratory specimens, ensuring timely receipt and accurate identification of patient specimens. Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently handle laboratory specimen receipt in a timely manner.
• Correctly identify patient specimens while receiving blood and non-blood specimens in the lab computer system.
• Chart patient reports while practicing good customer service skills.
• Provide coverage of the front desk area, including receipt of specimens by pneumatic tube and clerical functions associated with specimen receipt.
• Answer phones and provide information to nurses, doctors, and other staff as required.
• Log in patient requests from outside facilities or offices.
• Prepare send-out specimens for reference laboratories following outlined protocols.
• Chart lab reports as required.
• Manage information in the lab computer system.
• Receive and process all laboratory test specimens (blood and non-blood).
• Perform steps required to complete specimen receipt and general lab and reference sample processing.
• Train new staff in each area for which competency is maintained.
• Perform any other assigned duties, which may include charting cumulative reports.
