2nd Shift Lab Assistant Embedder
About The Position
The Embedding Lab Assistant is responsible for a variety of duties throughout the lab. Embedding and assisting in cytology, loading, and unloading surgical specimens on processors. Processor and stainer chemical changes. Also cleans and maintains assigned areas and performs other duties as needed. The Lab Assistant may be involved in minimal handling of Hazardous waste. Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures. These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Level I: less than 3 years of relevant work experience
- II: 4-7 years of relevant work experience
- III: 8+ years of relevant work experience
- (Experience to be determined at the discretion of the Histology Manager or Accessioning Supervisor)
Responsibilities
- Embedding tissue samples
- Loading/Unloading processor tissue samples.
- File blocks and slides as needed
- Perform cytology functions as needed
- Assist Histology department as assigned
- Perform daily QC documentation
- Maintain equipment and supplies in clean condition, including transferring from stainers and tissue processor to 90-day accumulation containers (55-gallon drums)
- May perform other duties as assigned.

- In the absence of the Histology Lab Manager responsible for department oversight and supervision
- Assist in new employee orientation and training
- Assist with updating and maintaining Accessioning Procedures
- Troubleshooting/problem solving
- Maintain communication with the Histology Lab Manager
