About The Position

The Lab Assistant in the Department of Genetics & Biochemistry at Clemson University is responsible for assisting in the organization and maintenance of the laboratory. This role involves maintaining laboratory equipment, managing supplies, and supporting plasmid purification processes under direct supervision.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Work experience in a related healthcare or clinical/research laboratory setting.
  • 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and/or chemistry, or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant, or completion of a formal program for laboratory assistants.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related fields.
  • 1+ years of experience in bookkeeping and organization of sensitive materials.
  • Experience in generation and isolation of bacterial plasmids.
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, maintenance of bacterial culture, and nucleic acid purification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in routine organization and maintenance of the lab.
  • Order and organize lab equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain efficient stocks of various lab supplies.
  • Help generate and organize bacterial plasmids for transfection of Plasmodium parasites.
  • Perform transformation of bacterial plasmids to acquire newly extracted forms and generate frozen bacterial stocks.
