About The Position

Organizes and coordinates the overall operation of the clinical laboratory phlebotomy and processing area, including staffing and work assignments of the phlebotomists, laboratory assistants, and interns. Directs, implements and updates policies, procedures and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and strengthen blood borne pathogen protection/safety measures. Ensures the timely delivery of accurate phlebotomy procedures and oversees the efficient maintenance and operation of all laboratory equipment. Serves as the liaison between phlebotomy laboratory and staff, physicians, patients, family and other hospital staff. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Requirements

  • HS Diploma: High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • CA Licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) I or II
  • 4 years recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated specialized expertise in standard phlebotomy principles, procedures, views, and equipment related to handling of biological specimens.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology.
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.
  • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), and EPIC.
  • Prioritize and delegate assignments based on experience, procedures, policies, and best practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Work autonomously, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
  • Identify and analyze data to solve problems that arise with little or no precedent.
  • Analyze workflow/processes and propose improvements or solutions that improve the efficiency of the team.
  • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
  • Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
