About The Position

The Lab Assistant is responsible for a variety of duties throughout the lab. Receiving and accessioning surgical specimens for testing, assists physicians and clients. Also cleans and maintains assigned areas and performs other duties as needed. The Lab Assistant may be involved in minimal handling of Hazardous waste. Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures. These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA, and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Level I: less than 3 years of relevant work experience
II: 4-7 years of relevant work experience
III: 8+ years of relevant work experience
(Experience to be determined at the discretion of the Histology Manager or Accessioning Supervisor)

Responsibilities

Receive and accession surgical and cytology specimens.
File blocks and slides as needed.
Perform daily QC documentation
Maintain equipment and supplies in clean condition, including transferring used reagents from stainers and tissue processors to 90-day accumulation containers (55-gal . drums).
Preps samples for send out to reference labs
May perform other duties as assigned.

In the absence of the Histology Lab Manager responsible for department oversight and supervision
Assist in new employee orientation and training
Assist with updating and maintaining Accessioning Procedures
Troubleshooting/problem solving
Maintain communication with the Histology Lab Manager
