The mission of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics is to promote biomedical discoveries and translational medicine through excellence in research, education, and community service. The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UCI School of Medicine is at the forefront of the new and exciting discoveries being made in modern microbiology and molecular genetics. We are a vibrant community of scientific investigators actively engaged in innovative research, discovery, training and teaching in microbiology and molecular genetics. We provide faculty research, training programs for undergraduate and graduate students and outreach functions as part of the mission of UC Irvine's School of Medicine. This newly established laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics focuses on investigating the structure and function of ribonucleoprotein and other macromolecular complexes in pathogenic bacteria. Our research integrates biochemical, molecular, and structural biology approaches, with a particular emphasis on cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The lab offers an excellent environment for scientific growth and collaboration. The responsibilities of this position include conducting experimental research under the supervision of the principal investigator and postdoctoral scientists, as well as providing general administrative and laboratory support.

Requirements

  • College level knowledge in microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to use computers.
  • Able and willing to work additional hours including weekends, as requested

Nice To Haves

  • Skill in preparation of chemical solutions.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Knowledge of biology and molecular genetics.
  • Experience in a biology research laboratory.
  • Knowledge of and experience using restriction enzymes.
  • Experience growing bacterial cultures and obtaining plasmid DNA.
  • Typing and clerical skills
  • Cell culture, biochemistry, and protein/RNA purification, and cryo-EM.
