About The Position

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Animal Science or related field preferred.
• Certificate 1 Laboratory Animal Technician required; Certificate 2 Laboratory Animal Technician preferred.
• 1-3 years related work experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Laboratory Animal setting working with rodents, including technical procedures and basic husbandry skills.
• Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the Sentinel Health Surveillance Program, including obtaining and preparing samples for transport to an external diagnostic laboratory.
• Assists the Supervisor or Manager with animal husbandry staff assignments to ensure scheduled work is completed according to departmental procedures.
• Monitors health and wellbeing of all animal colonies and provides medical treatments as per departmental procedures or veterinarian instructions.
• Records all pertinent information on required departmental forms regarding animal health.
• Reports health conditions to the Supervisor, Manager, or Veterinarian and communicates health concerns with research groups.
• Evaluates incoming animal orders for accuracy and ensures proper handling and housing of new animals.
