This job assumes responsibility for all animal care aspects. Cleans the animal’s cages, including washing bottles, changing bedding, and disinfecting the walls and floors. Maintains animal identification cards, feeds the animals, and observes and identifies animals with symptoms of illness or disease. Requirements

  • Education Required - High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Experience Required - None.
  • Ability to handle various types of research animals.
  • Ability and willingness to follow and teach regulations on animal care.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout required job processes.
  • Ability to work weekends on a rotating basis and travel throughout and between facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred - 5 years of experience working with animals.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures animal care area is sanitary by disinfecting the walls and floors weekly.
  • Feeds animals daily and observes and identifies symptoms of sick animals.
  • Changes the animal’s bedding, cages, cage tops and water bottles daily.
  • Maintains supply levels and animal identification cards.
  • Communicates with investigators and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee as needed ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
