When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. Laboratory Animal Tech I staff perform daily cleaning and feeding of live animals undergoing approved and funded research studies, monitoring of health and well-being of animals as well as general cleaning and disinfection of rodent racks, hoods, walls and floors according to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratories Animals and AAALAC standards. These tasks must be performed daily. Each Tech II provides care to approximately 900-1000 cages depending on the type of caging and the experimental needs of the colony. The Animal Research Facility holds an assurance with OLAW (Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare) and PHS (Public Health Service) as well as a registration with USDA and an AAALAC (Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care)accreditation. If we are unable to fill this position we will be required to decrease research animal colonies. This will result in significant disruptions to ongoing funded research and loss of per diem recoveries from the animal cages. We must ensure that we are able to provide appropriate and humane care to animals, according to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and federal and state regulatory agency requirements.
