About The Position

Responsible for performing the technical and clerical duties not requiring professional judgment in the inpatient pharmacy distribution system. These duties are associated with providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to inpatients of Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 1 must be completed and successfully assessed within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluation thereafter.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician Level 1 experience and completion of all required competencies, or completion of Shands Hospital Technician Training Program, or current enrollment in the Shands Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training Program with consent of the program director.
• Completion of Military Hospital Core School and/or Field Service School.
• Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
• Completion of a college-based Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
• One year hospital pharmacy technician experience.
• One year retail pharmacy technician experience.
• One year pharmaceutical inventory function experience.
• One year (24 credit hours) science-based college level study, including successful completion of Algebra.
• One year experience transcribing/interpreting physician orders plus 12 credit hours of science-based college level study, including successful completion of algebra.
• Active Status as a certified pharmacy technician with PTCB.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Laminar Air Flow Hood experience.
• Knowledge of repackaging and compounding techniques.
