About The Position
The L&I Electrical Construction Inspector position at the State of Washington's Department of Labor & Industries is a full-time role dedicated to ensuring electrical safety and compliance across the state. The mission of the department is to keep Washington safe and working, and this role plays a crucial part in that mission by conducting safety inspections of electrical installations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public service and committed to building collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including contractors, architects, engineers, and the public. This position is not just about inspections; it also involves fighting fraud and abuse in the electrical construction industry to help eliminate the underground economy in Washington State. As an Electrical Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting inspections at various stages of construction, ensuring compliance with electrical licensing laws, state rules, and the National Electrical Code (NEC). You will issue citations or correction notices for safety violations and provide a quality customer experience by assisting contractors and the public in understanding and complying with applicable laws. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to have crucial conversations, and a willingness to lead in the field among a group of experts. This position is considered In-Training for a period of 24 months, during which you will learn and apply L&I rules, policies, state laws, and best practices related to electrical inspections. By the end of this training period, you will be fully qualified to perform the duties of an L&I Electrical Inspector, which includes maintaining a busy daily schedule and using computer systems to manage records according to established policies and procedures. The position also offers a flexible work schedule, including teleworking options based on business needs and supervisor approval.
