About The Position

The Kubernetes Network developing Engineer will focus on networking for K3s clusters deployed across hybrid architectures (x86, ARM, accelerators). The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining cluster networking that integrates with external systems. This includes writing Kubernetes controllers, managing IP address allocation, configuring VLANs outside of K3s and exposing them inside, extending networking with Multus CNI, and ensuring clusters support advanced CNI (Cilium/Calico) and bare-metal load balancing. The engineer ensures application and infrastructure networking is reliable, scalable, and secure.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes/K3s networking and CNIs.
  • Hands-on experience with Multus, Cilium, Calico, and MetalLB.
  • Strong Go development skills (Kubebuilder, Operator SDK).
  • Proficiency in Linux networking (netlink, iproute2, eBPF).
  • Experience with IPAM, VLAN bridging, DHCP/DNS integration.
  • Security-first mindset: RBAC, network policies, encryption.
  • Familiarity with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) and high-performance networking (SR-IOV, DPDK).

Nice To Haves

  • Contributions to Kubernetes networking or CNI projects.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement networking for hybrid K3s clusters.
  • Configure and optimize CNIs (Multus, Cilium, Calico) for multi-network scenarios.
  • Enable VLAN-backed networks, SR-IOV, and multi-interface workloads.
  • Deploy and manage bare-metal load balancers (MetalLB, BGP).
  • Build custom Kubernetes controllers/operators in Go for declarative networking.
  • Automate IPAM, DNS integration, and network provisioning across hybrid environments.
  • Ensure seamless GitOps integration with CRDs and controllers.
  • Implement network policies, encryption, and observability (Cilium Hubble, Prometheus).
  • Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and hardware teams to align with platform needs.
  • Document architecture, runbooks, and provide internal knowledge transfer.

Benefits

  • Paid time off based on employee grade (A-F), defined by policy: Vacation: 12-25 days, depending on grade, Company paid holidays, Personal Days, Sick Leave
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage (or provincial healthcare coordination in Canada)
  • Retirement savings plans (e.g., 401(k) in the U.S., RRSP in Canada)
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Employee assistance programs
  • Other benefits as provided by local policy and eligibility
