A Broadcast Engineer at Griffin Media helps drive the Ideal Team Player culture. The Broadcast Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of all broadcast transmitters, equipment and systems within the broadcast media company. This role ensures the continuous, high-quality transmission of broadcast signals and addresses any technical issues that arise. The Broadcast Engineer will work closely with production, operations, and IT teams to support all technical aspects of broadcast production and transmission.

  • Install, configure, and maintain broadcast equipment, including transmitters, receivers, routers, video servers, audio processors, and other related hardware.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance of all broadcast systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor the quality and reliability of broadcast signals, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and company standards.
  • Coordinate with the production team to set up and operate equipment for live broadcasts, including remote broadcasts.
  • Manage the technical setup and operation of studio and control room equipment.
  • Provide technical support to production and operations staff, addressing any issues related to audio, video, and signal transmission.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure the seamless integration of broadcast and IT systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all broadcast equipment complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and participate in technical projects, such as system upgrades, new installations, and facility expansions.
  • Work with company departments, vendors and contractors to procure and install new equipment.
  • Monitor tower structures in accordance with FAA regulations and accurately maintain broadcast equipment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.
  • Associate Science Degree in electronics, military training, or trade school certificate preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in broadcast engineering or a similar role preferred.
  • Ability to climb a 20-foot ladder and perform work at various heights.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast systems, including RF technology, digital video and audio standards, and IP-based broadcast solutions.
  • Competent in the use of electronic test equipment, i.e., wave form monitors, vectroscopes, oscilloscopes, distortion analyzers, digital volt meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Proficiency in using broadcast-related software and tools.
  • Competent with hand tools, soldering equipment, and small power tools.
  • Possess mathematical ability to perform basic calculations, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of FCC regulations and industry standards.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor locations, transmitter sites, confined studio spaces, inclement weather, and noisy locations.
  • Ability to work on occasion for extended periods of time without a scheduled break.
  • Willingness to travel to remote broadcast locations as needed.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
