About The Position

The KOHA Lead provides operational and staff oversight for the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) program. This position is responsible for supporting KOHA coordinators statewide, ensuring program alignment with state requirements, and supporting the day-to-day operational success of the program. The KOHA Lead also has direct responsibility for coordinating assessments in their designated county, maintaining compliance, building community relationships, and ensuring children are connected to needed dental care.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license in the State of Michigan required.
  • 3+ years of experience in program coordination, operations, or health-related leadership.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise KOHA Coordinators across regions.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance development.
  • Conduct regular bi-weekly 1:1 meeting with coordinators.
  • Host monthly KOHA team updates and ensure clear communication across the program.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on staffing strategies including hiring, training, performance management and dismissal.
  • Lead and participate in interviews, ensuring candidates align with program and organizational needs.
  • Oversee onboarding and training of new KOHA team members.
  • Oversee KOHA assessment completion to ensure compliance with contractual requirements. Monitor team progress toward required numbers, provide coaching and support to coordinators, and intervene as needed to keep the program on track.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in KOHA systems (event/contact tracking, urgent follow-ups, quarterly reporting).
  • Partner with internal departments (HR, IT, Operations, Compliance, Marketing, Finance) to ensure seamless program delivery.
  • Maintain MDHHS KOHA portal/database via MI Login setup and troubleshooting for coordinators.
  • Track KOHA program spending and budget items in partnership with Finance and Communications and Marketing Director.
  • Provide updates and ensure alignment with funding opportunities.
  • Review financial reports and assist in long-term planning for sustainability.
  • Provide operational input into advocacy efforts and legislative communications.
  • Collaborate with advocacy and partnerships staff to align operational needs with external policy developments.
  • Ensure KOHA staff have appropriate marketing and outreach materials.
  • Support compliance with PA 161 and program requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage KOHA assessments for contracted health department schools.
  • Partner with local schools, health departments, and providers to ensure 100% assessment completion.
  • Track follow-up care for children identified with urgent needs.
  • Submit reports and maintain compliance with state requirements for contracted health department.
  • All other duties as assigned
