About The Position

These job openings are at Shawmut Infinite Openings: 2nd shift (Mon-Fri 4pm-12am) 3rd shift (Mon-Fri 12am-8am) The primary purpose of the role of Threader is to thread all ends of yarn into knitting machines, ensuring top quality, and to turn machines over to Knitting Operators with machines running properly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or up to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend most documents, such as safety rules, operating procedures and instructions.
  • Duties are routine and highly repetitive, requiring the use of definite procedures which are limited in scope and detail and seldom involve variations. Instructions and procedures are well-defined, requiring minimal independent judgment for those in the role.
  • Must have the job knowledge to determine the correct actions to be taken on a timely basis.
  • Must work collaboratively with internal employees of the organization.
  • Use of scissors, blue tape, colored ink pen (color varies by shift), black permanent ink marker, hook, back threader, impact hammer, push rod handle, open/boxed end wrenches, allen wrench, screwdriver, guide wrench, threader hook, and dauber.
  • Remain in a standing stationary position occasionally, moving/traversing about the work area constantly, using hands/fingers to operate equipment frequently.
  • May frequently climb or position oneself as necessary to access areas on equipment pertinent to one’s job.
  • Visual attention is necessary because frequent near acuity for detecting defects is required.
  • The ability to distinguish color is warranted.
  • Needs to be able to detect smells for safety-related purposes on occasion.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed, often a weekend day.

Responsibilities

  • Before Threading Machine:
  • Prior to removing beam paper, clean beam flanges, if needed, and ensure correct yarn & gauge.
  • Ensure yarn sheet is not rubbing beam flanges.
  • Inspect for bruised beams and report any detected to Supervisor.
  • Check runners (depending on which bar/bars are out).
  • Remove guide bar/bars and clean slides and guide bar brackets.
  • Clean and grease push rods and studs, reporting any issues to Fixer.
  • Inspect for bent or uneven guides, sinkers, etc. and report repair needs to Fixer.
  • Clean sley points and yarn rods.
  • Loosen warp collars.
  • While Threading Machine:
  • Report any bad tapes to Supervisor
  • Lay ends straight into separator points.
  • Lay ends as close to beam flanges as possible.
  • Tighten warp collars before starting machine.
  • Remove and correct doubles in other bar while threading, as warranted by style.
  • Recheck runners (both bars).
  • After Threading Machine:
  • Inspect fabric for yarn or machine defects; correct any found.
  • Inspect machine closely after threading for ends dragging on beam flanges.
  • Set rack clock to proper racks before starting new roll (if rack needs to be changed).
  • Complete warp card and threading ticket, and obtain required samples.
  • Check new piece tickets for correct style and piece number.
  • Return old warp card and samples (as required) to Supervisor.
  • Return Threader’s guide bar removal handle to proper place.
  • Assist Operators with machine repairs.
  • Keep work area clean and report any spills or safety hazards.
  • Promote a culture that reflects the organization’s values, encourages good performance, and enhances productivity.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks, as needed.
  • Perform other duties, as necessary, and as required by special instructions.
