About The Position

The Kitchen Technician works under the supervision of the Manager of Food Services, to ensure cleanliness and organization inside of the kitchen area and the proper maintenance of food service facilities and equipment. This role must have the ability to interact and communicate inside a kitchen that has both Coalition cooks and community volunteers who support the Coalition through serving and at times preparing food for our guests. This role requires a high level of professionalism, commitment, and adaptability to uphold Coalition Values and maintain an environment of dignity, respect, and cooperation.

Requirements

  • HS or GED preferred and at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
  • Safely climb up and down ladders
  • Work independently and employ critical thinking skills to problem-solve issues.
  • Follow instruction from supervisor and communicate effectively with team members and volunteers
  • Safely use cleaning tools such as broom, mop and scrub brushes, and safely use common cleaning chemicals.
  • Effective and reliable team player with appropriate communication skills
  • Demonstrate respect, compassion, and kindness towards others
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in cleaning and preventative maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in food storage areas, including refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage shelves.
  • Clean and maintain various types of floors, surfaces, and ceiling vents.
  • Clean and sanitize dining hall tables, chairs, and countertops before and after meal service.
  • Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other food service equipment using manual or mechanical methods.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum dining hall floors to maintain cleanliness and prevent slip hazards.
  • Empty and sanitize trash receptacles regularly to ensure a hygienic environment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning on food service equipment, including ovens, steamers, ice machines, etc.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, and food processors safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in optimal condition.
  • Ensure refrigerators and freezers maintain the correct temperatures and log assessment of temperature verification daily.
  • Receive and inspect incoming food deliveries to ensure quality and freshness.
  • Perform temperature checks for both frozen and hot meals being delivered by donors to ensure that all meet the state of Florida food safety temperature thresholds.
  • Provide all donors with a form to document the date and contents of their food donation and file them in the designated area in the kitchen.
  • Properly store food items in designated areas, adhering to FIFO (first in, first out) principles to minimize waste, by labeling in clean neat writing.
  • Ensure that all food in the refrigerator and freezers are labeled to include what the item is and the date it was placed in cold storage.
  • Assist with food preparation activities as needed, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and following recipes under the guidance of kitchen staff.
  • Provide volunteer groups hairnets, beard nets, gloves, aprons and direct to the handwashing station before any food preparation takes place.
  • Collaborate with volunteer groups to the different stations – food prep, food distribution and food clean-up post meal service.
  • Assist in the assembly and packaging of meals for distribution, ensuring accurate portioning and presentation.
  • Report kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes and procedures promptly.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
